About Pamoja

The Hub of OrppotUNITY

From tidal pools to football fields, Pamoja is Lamu’s Hub of OpportUNITY—a youth-powered movement where creativity, sport, and climate action collide to spark real, lasting change. We don’t work in silos. At Pamoja, education, sports, and climate justice are interconnected—each reinforcing the other to grow confident, conscious youth leaders who uplift their communities from the inside out.

The Problem We’re Tackling
In Lamu County, youth—especially girls—face early pregnancies, school dropouts, limited SRHR education, rising drug use, and environmental threats—but we believe the most joyful, effective, and lasting solution is unlocking their potential through an exciting blend of education, sports, and climate action.

What We Do

Pamoja is a lean, bold nonprofit run by and for youth in Lamu County. We use fun, hands-on programs to unlock potential and rewrite narratives of marginalization. Our work flows through three connected streams:

  • Shamba La Shela School – Outdoor learning in gardens, on beaches, in art spaces, and leadership hubs

  • Saruma Exchange – Youth travel & storytelling through international exchange

  • Health Clubs – SRHR education for girls in safe, peer-led spaces

  • Swim4Change – Teaching girls to swim, build confidence, and promote gender equity

  • Pamoja Football League – Peace-focused leagues that nurture young talent and inspire unity

  • Upcycle Peace Campaigns – Sports events paired with recycling drives and awareness

  • -School- and club-led environmental cleanups
  • -Recycle & reuse initiatives that integrate with art and athletics
  • -Campaigns that turn trash into treasure—boosting awareness while building green skills
